Signing in each day-letter recognition and where in the word?

Each session, the students locate their name strips and determine whether or not they have the letter that day in their name.  This activity lends itself to concept of letter and of word as well as word meaning.  Additionally, students learn where in the word (name) the letter is; beginning/initial, middle/medial, or end/final.  This student has the honor of posing with the chart because of his shirt-super adorable.
