Buddy Reading

Children are allowed to find a place in the classroom to Buddy Read.  Students are expected to ask a friend to buddy read with and then are to select a book.  The children then go to a spot in the classroom and tell the story to each other which means reading the whole book.  I am proud of how skilled these children are when engaging in book work.

Some friends found a good place to read-at the Post Office!

These two friends are clearly enjoying their selection!

Here friends read together, one reading one page and one reading the next.

When friends need help getting started, staff is there to remind, redirect and reinforce those good reading behaviors.

Sharing a book with a friend.

When children tell us they can't read the words, we remind them they can read the 3 or 4-year old way!

A variety of text are available to students.  These particular books are from the Mansfield Public Library.  Thus, they are unfamiliar text which are more challenging than text that is familiar.
