OLD-FASHIONED SCHOOL AND OLD-FASHIONED TOYS

Pointing out today's lesson in her costume of period dress.

A friend tries on an apron and bonnet.

This student is playing with a "buzz-saw" which I remember making with a button.

This is a Thaumatrope, an old-fashioned toy that creates an optical illusion.  Children have been creating their own during color groups this week and next.  They've come up with such wonderful ideas!

Spinning the thaumatrope!

Children have been having a grand time being the teacher and being the students.

Marbles have been a hit!  Children are learning how to play.  The marbles are divided evenly among the players.  An "aggy" is placed in the center and students take turns flicking the marble with either their thumb or their index finger towards the aggy.  The child that hits the aggy with their marble collects all of the other marbles in the circle.  It has been a super game to develop personal and social skills, gross and fine motor skills and good sportsmanship.

We did replace the pencil with chalk in time!  Thank you Mansfield Historical Society for the loaned slates.
A teacher hard at work.
