Color Groups this week!

Students "fished" for action verbs.  The fish have photographs of people engaged in various actions.  We used our voices to state what was happening in complete sentences and using the "ing" ending.
The second color group was based on a L. Lionni book "Inch by Inch".  Children went to the hallway to act out racing away from the bird like an inchworm and then they returned to a work mat to talk about the story and to practice counting 1-10.  Number recognition was also targeted.  Children then drew 10 inchworms on their paper to address 1:1 correspondence.
Children used workmats to measure out 1, 2, 3 and 4 inch long inchworms.
Students also had another opportunity for number recognition practice and developing their fine motor skills with Play-doh.  We've worked with nonstandard units of measure, this was children's first experience with actual rulers and the paper rulers on the workmats.
