Neighbors-Early learning experiences will support children to understand self, family, and a diverse community.

Our neighborhood is part of our "All about Me" theme that continues throughout the year.  We've been exploring maps and now exploring what makes a neighborhood and community.
Multi-cultural people figures encourage appreciation of other cultures.
Children "built" their own homes and then brainstormed what other elements needed to be included in their Mansfield neighborhood.  On the chalkboard are their contributions.
SS.48.3 Identify cultural characteristics of self, family and community (e.g., home language, foods, modes of transportation, shelter, etc.)  per Connecticut Early Learning Developmental Standards (Strands A & B).
Children stay on the edges of their neighborhood and lean in.  This promotes crossing midline and developing core strength.
SS.60.8 Demonstrate understanding of the basic relationship of money for the purchase of food, shelter, goods and services, moving toward an understanding of the difference between wants and needs is the strand but we also have an opportunity to read environmental print such as "Dunkin Donuts."
We only had one day to really play with our Discovery area.
