Reading from the "Old Favorites" box in the classroom

Children are provided with semi-quiet, uninterrupted reading time everyday.  During this time, either myself and/or one of the instructional assistants will pull children aside to confer about a book, be it familiar or unfamiliar text.
"Old Favorites" are books that have been read and reread and thus are highly familiar to the children.  Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons is one example.
Thanks to the generosity of our families, I was able to purchase less-expensive soft-cover copies of "Peanut Butter and Cupcake" which is a much loved story!
Reading happens right now in two spaces, the blue rug or the lily pad rug but that does provide a bench and pillows for comfort.  As the year progresses, children will learn how to Buddy Read and be allowed to find comfortable reading spaces around the room.
In an attempt to "capture the moment" these two students have taken it upon themselves to choose the same book and read together.  The book is "Love Monster and the Scary Something" which is new to me this year and I love the graphics, intriguing story line and funny ending.  Stay tuned for more "Love Monster" books.
