Special Schedules

Dear Families,
Please remember that our Gym day is on Monday.  Children should be sent to school wearing athletic shoes or with a pair in their backpacks to change in to when they go to Gym.  Library books are due on Wednesdays and Music is on Fridays.  Thanks so much for all of your support!  You are appreciated by this staff.

We painted a rock as an Iceberg for our sand table

The weather has been spectacular, no SNOW!

Mathematics-Sorting, Patterning and Counting

This student is sorting by color.  When you see "Cognitive 3" on your child's report card, this is the skill that they evidence.

Here a student is independently completing a pattern using Teddy Bear counters.

Sometimes the older games are just the best.  I remember playing "Trouble" when I was their age.

Scientific Inquiry-How Do Animals Survive in Winter?

During the last two weeks, students have been answering the above mentioned question.  We learned that some animals "adapt" to their environment.  Some animals store food, some turn white like the snow in order to blend in thus camouflaging themselves.  We also learned from direct scientific observation that some animals grow thick fur in order to survive Connecticut winters.

A special thank you to UCONN's Museum of Natural History for lending us these magnificent pelts.

Building animal habitats out of natural materials

Dental Hygiene-Guest Speaker for the Morning Friends

Our dental hygienist will be visiting our afternoon session friends on March 7.  Look in your child's backpack for a tooth-inspired gift.

COOPERATIVE GAMES

In Prekindergarten, children are taught various games with staff and then encouraged to play independently.

CHINESE NEW YEAR ART AND ARTIFACTS

Snow is here and we had lots of FUN!

Balance is developed on this slippery slope.

There was some snow eaten.
That is a child on our Playscape-so fun.
The slide was challenging to get all the way down.

Making cards for loved ones!

Students are provided with various materials in order to express their creativity making cards.

Letter strips support writing.

Construction and Destruction have ended!

Sharing a "Pop Up" Book

Students in Prekindergarten are encouraged to share and take turns.

Flying Squirrels are native to Connecticut!

This student has just demonstrated that the squirrel puppet's tail has a place to put a finger so that the squirrel's tail is straight and thus makes a good rudder.

Animals in Winter Puppets

Children learned that there are many types of squirrels.  Here, a Prekindergarten friend examines a grey squirrel, while a friend examines a flying squirrel.

Morning Arrival Choices

Children in Prekindergarten are provided with many opportunities to choose for themselves.  This includes self-selecting a game or activity to do by oneself or with a friend or two, or three.

Students learned about "How do Squirrels Survive in Winter?"  Here, an artistic friend is drawing squirrels inside a tree, along with an owl.
