Goings on in Prekindergarten the week after Thanksgiving Break

Here a student calls friends for snack.  Notice that the children sign in and that their name and picture are cut like puzzle pieces.  Word/picture matching strengths the word/meaning relationship.  This job will become a weekly job when "Jobs" start officially next week.
Thank you to a generous family for donating these fantastic easels.  The children have an opportunity to practice so many skills when painting upright.
Children are encouraged to "tickle" the paper and keep the brush from having a bad hair day!
Floor puzzles encourage cooperation and communication.  They also help children cross midline, strengthen their upper bodies by reaching and improve their visual/spatial skills just to name a few.
Friends in the morning class earned a reward for following the classroom rules.  We vote between two choices.  The children made "Campfire Cookies".  There were many chances to improve fine motor skills.
Children built their own cookies using a photograph for help.

This student is using a 10s-frame to count out 20 pom-poms for a circle activity.  Later, we sorted and patterned these materials.

This will come home next week, but just a heads-up!

An Important Message from
Vinton Prekindergarten!

November 21, 2017

Dear Families,

Here at Vinton Prekindergarten the children will be learning about their community-Mansfield!  The children will be creating a representation of their home using loose parts such as boxes, paper bags and other mediums.  I am requesting that if it is at all possible, that you send your child to school with some photographs (printed or electronic) of their home (inside and/or outside).  You might like to take the photos together knowing that these photos will be used to design their home here at school.

They will also be learning to state their addresses and telephone numbers.  Could you please let us know what phone number you’d like your child to be able to recite.

To send electronic photos, send to davismj@mansfieldct.org.  You can also email me the preferred phone number if that would be easier or jot a note and place in your child’s home/school communication folder.

Thanks so much!-Martha Davis

Working together=A VERY long paper-chain.

Older friends from Mr. Toomey's classroom helped count out the number of steps to figure out how long our paper-chain was.

We counted together as long as we could.

That's one long paper-chain-84 steps!

Nature Play-Building Bodies of Water

In preparation for our unit on Geography, students had an opportunity to create bodies of water.  The wind made this a bit of a challenge!  River stones helped hold down the foil.  Next week, students will be learning their addresses, that they live in Mansfield and how to plan their own community.

Group Shapes=Collaboration and Leadership

Collaborative Art Installations-Reggio Emilia Style

According to the Reggio-Emilia philosophy,  learners should be able to think divergently.  Thus, they suggest "Provocations" that "provoke thoughts, discussions, questions, interests, creativity and ideas".  We are hoping our group art installations will contribute to these opportunities.
