Who's coat?

No one has claimed this nice jacket so if you recognize it don't hesitate to let us know and we'll send it home.

Quiet choices that address so many performance standards!

These friends are lacing.  Lacing requires children to use their motor planning skills, hand/eye coordination, fine motor skills and social-emotional skills such as sharing.

Puzzles offer a chance for choice, planning, and fine motor skills.

Scissor work during another Color Group

The children have been snipping construction paper and tearing tissue paper to prepare for a group decoupage project next week.

During one of this week's color groups, children work in a group to create their own affirmation or "cheer".  Here a friend has designed her own "Zebra Cheer" complete with word/picture match and accompanying action.

A friend is sorting through the cheers we've learned thus far.  On top of the pile is the "Frog" cheer.  You can see the beginning of writng, left to right and the picture was chosen to match the word.

Dancing in our costumes to Disco!

It was soooo hot and no one cared!

Miss. Green discoed too!

Loose parts in the classroom!

What are Loose Parts?

In a preschool, loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways.

Loose parts play challenges children to think creatively.

A car.
An incredible plane!  This child was able to tell about his design and ideas for future aviation!

This week's Discovery Center-Heavy or Light?

This friend weighted all of the objects in the basket and then searched around the room for other items to add.

Mrs. Davis and this student then weighted all of the items in the heavy tray to determine which item was the heaviest.

Dressing Up!

Children exercise voice and choice during our "Choice Time" in the dress-up area.  A myriad of costumes-all with the intent of inspiring dramatic play and self-help skills.

"Spidergirl"!

Selecting accessories.

Dramatic play-Super heroes saving the day.

Some friends were just starstruck by this fun center.

Who to rescue?

The right scent is so important.

A kind escort.

Helping a friend with their shoe.

There was also quite a bit of action which addresses some of the Physical standards of the Connecticut Performance Assessment.

New Sand Table-"I Spy"

During our book look time, children have had an opportunity to review "I Spy" books.  In an effort to continue the fun and vocabulary opportunities, our new sand table is filled with items.  Children use pinchers to grasp items or to play "I Spy with my Little Eyes".

Here, a staff member prompts children in playing the game and labeling the items that they see.

Afternoon student earned a reward for Monday

Our class earns "owls" for following the three classroom rules.  Listening to the teachers, being nice to others and taking care of things in our classroom are behaviors that are recognized throughout the day.  Ten owls is the goal at the beginning of the year.  A tens-frame counting mat helps students organize their counting, assists with number recognition and requires students to use mental math when recognizing how many more owls are needed.
