Patterning assessments this week.

I'm still trying to wrap up assessing student skills.  Last but not least is patterning.  If I've not gathered what I feel is sufficient evidence as to a skill, students are pulled aside and evaluated using a specific task.

Puzzles! Lauri puzzles are fun and challenging.

Mrs. Riquier, the Dental Hygienist visited today along with her friend Ollie!

"Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?"

Both classes of children loved reading the above mentioned book and then making a page of the book with their own name and picture on it.  These class books are added to our reading center and provide children with an opportunity to read and reread familiar text.

Children are reading the words that will be glued to the page.  This highly repetitive text requires the child to respond to an accusation.  So much fun!

This week's featured story and associated learning activities!

Name Puzzles

Your child has already brought their puzzle home, but a friend was the one who taped it back together again.  During color groups, we've been working on recognizing our names, recognizing the letters in our names, knowing the initial, medial and final letters in our names and even in our friend's names.  Children were given oaktag with their name on one side and told to draw a picture on the other.  Then, Mrs. Dionne drew lines for them to cut along and make a "puzzle" out of their names.  They reassembled the puzzle, but a few days later, we all sat down to a different puzzle and by using our sign-in name strips, figured out a friend's name.  Then we taped it up and returned it!

It was tricky work, but we stuck with it!

Mr. Seal, our Principal, came out to play SHARKS!!!!

Ramps

Our wooden ramp set includes two sizes of wooden balls and ramps with PVC tunnels.  The children added wooden blocks from our classroom sets to enhance their tracks.  Rise over run!

Cup Stacking in Physical Education

Cup stacking is engaging and a great workout for hand/eye coordination.  The children worked so hard at learning the steps and then they had time to make their own creations!
