Alphabetic Principle

The children have been rehearsing the alphabet this year, making sure to not sing it as a song, but rather recognize the individual letter names.  Children have also been provided with key vocabulary such as "keyword" to help remember the sound a letter typically makes as well as recognizing that a letter between two // denotes the sound that letter makes.  Children have also heard the words "initial and final" to denote position within a word, such as the sound /s/ is in the initial position in the word "snack".
